Kodurand Violin Studio - About us

Face-to-Face Violin Lessons

We believe that successful lessons require the most dedicated teachers with a friendly yet encouraging atmosphere.  Our lessons contain three essential elements; a structured plan, an inspiring approach and a supportive environment.  We will teach you how to practise and develop a sound technique so you can progress by yourself, but most importantly of all we aim to give you a sense of accomplishment and joy in your achievements!

Our students vary from young children to mature adults (our oldest to date was 91!), and teachers wishing to develop their own skills. We are also one of the few teaching studios in the South West to offer both modern (standard) and baroque violin lessons.

We suggest all students book an initial trial lesson so we can assess your level, discuss goals and make sure you have a comfortable setup, ensuring the best possible start.

My daughter is a beginner and has been taking lessons for 6 months. Simon is an excellent teacher, passionate and... patient with a great sense of humour, which are definitely required to take a young beginner through the wonderful journey of learning violin!! The Kodurand Violin Studio has a very inclusive approach. Even in Month 2, my daughter was able to take part in a concert playing a short piece, which she was very proud of. In the current challenging time, the Studio has adapted swiftly to offer online lessons. It is amazing that she can continue to learn new pieces and new technical skills as music is definitely needed to get through this time! Thank you very much and I highly recommend the Studio to anyone who wants to start learning violin (and I'm considering it myself too!)read more

Liv & Simon are both very professional & experienced violinists and teach in a relaxed and lovely setting. Liv is very... particular with technique and our 10 year old daughter has enjoyed nearly 2 years of Liv & Simons gentle, experienced teaching style. Online lessons during lockdown have worked really well with great follow up tutorial videos.read more

A beautiful studio in a beautiful setting. I went with no previous knowledge on the violin and found the teaching... really accessible and clear but also very thorough. The lessons were catered to me and my schedule and my learning style and I was constantly encouraged to seek help between lessons if I needed it. the online lessons work well, with helpful videos being sent to further explain some areas.read more

I have been having lessons with Liv and Simon for over a year, having not really picked up a violin since I was a... child. I have progressed so much and achieved a distinction at Grade 2. I now have the confidence to perform in front of other students and have joined a community orchestra. I really enjoy my lessons as Liv and Simon are relaxed and personable yet still push me to achieve my best.read more

Beginning to learn to play the violin as an absolute beginner at the age of 47 was a daunting step for me to take, when... I approached Liv for lessons. Fortunately she didn't think this was at all a ridiculous idea and under her firm but gentle instruction I've been pleased with my progress. She is a perfectionist with a high level of technical skill, not allowing me to get away with anything incorrectly right from the start, which has been very good for me. She is also patient, warm and approachable, so that lessons have been thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring.read more
